Day 4 Camino-from Akeretta to Pamplona(17 km)
Awakened in the dead of night, starlight spills across the window. Is it the time difference playing tricks, or is my mind restless? I can't help but long to step outside, letting the moonlight wash over my weary soul.
Before dawn breaks, I stand at the restaurant door. The Spanish lady has yet to arrange the breakfast table, but I eagerly ask if I can take a simple meal to go. With a cheerful “¡hola” accompanied by melodious Spanish, I hurriedly grab my hearty meal, too rushed to savor the Spanish art of slow dining.
The morning is cool, and I choose to run instead of walk, weaving through mountain paths, countryside, riverside towns, until I reach the bustling asphalt roads. This journey of freedom feels like a first love—sweet and beautiful.
Along the way, I meet many pilgrims, each with their own pace and rhythm. Walking seems simple, yet sustaining it for over a month is no small feat. In these days of pilgrimage, my traveler’s mindset quietly shifts. Once, I rushed to check off famous sights; now, I find beauty in the everyday scenery. Life can indeed be this simple.
As the years pass, I begin to understand why many foreigners choose a simple life, investing their time in the intangible. In contrast, we often exhaust ourselves in the pursuit of material things, leaving our souls trailing far behind.
I cherish this saying: “Perfection lies not in what can be added, but in what can be let go.” Simplicity is power.
As the midday rain pours, pilgrims rest where they are, quietly observing the cleansed earth. When the rain subsides and the clouds part, the rested travelers set off once more. Following the natural flow, they embody the power of simplicity.
On this pilgrimage, I slowly realize: life is like this journey, not about pursuing flawless perfection, but about knowing how to let go. Each step is a tribute to simplicity, a hymn to life.
